Director of upcoming Wii and DS title Sonic Colours, Takeshi Iizuka has made it plain that Sonic's latest outing will be a solo affair with no additional characters playable. He also points out that the game will appeal to Mario fans!Iizuka explains that, "From a general game design perspective, in recent years we've been able to introduce Sonic to new fans, a lot of the Nintendo/Mario fans, and because of that, we've made changes to the design, and we've designed things in
Sonic Colours that we think will really appeal to people who are unfamiliar with the Sonic brand and the Sonic gameplay. So from that perspective we hope that fans of Mario will really be able to enjoy playing as Sonic in
Sonic Colours."
Fear not hardcore Sonic fans,
Colours will keep focusing on the renowned speeding blue hedgehog. He also discusses the colour powers that will feature in the game, allowing for greater variation in
Sonic Colours' various platforming sections.
Iizuka further discusses the integration of 2D side-scrolling and 3D gameplay in the latest title and how they have purposefully limited what you can do in certain sections of the games stages to keep the gameplay streamlined and thrilling.
Do you mind that the latest Sonic game has had such influence from Mario? Do you even care? And do you want to see a return to greatness for SEGA's speeding star? Let us know in the comments below.
