Forget platform wars, now it's Publisher Wars - where the fanboys are even more vicious. This time round EA's vice president of communications, has responded to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick's tirade against the Electronic Arts.
Jeff Brown of EA stated, "Kotick's relationship with studio talent is well documented in litigation," in reference to such situations has the suits versus Double Fine over Brutal Legend, and Infinity Ward's Zampella and West.
Brown continued, in a statement to the press, with no punches pulled, stating, "His (Kotick's) company is based on three game franchises – one is a fantastic persistent world he had nothing to do with; one is in steep decline; and the third is in the process of being destroyed by Kotick's own hubris."
In order then, World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero and Call of Duty. We expect either Mr Kotick's stockholders to rein him in, or for a further outburst.
So, is this the way for executives to lead a relatively new industry into maturity? Comments in the forum.
