Famed Capcom producer Keiji Inafune had just hopped on stage during a Tokyo Game Show press conference to declare the Japanese games industry alive and well.
The theme of the conference - currently taking place - is that "the Japanese industry is not dead as long as Capcom is still around." Inafune said that "there's a dearth of developers who keep the west in their sights," suggesting that Japan has to look internationally for future success.
Capcom announced such a move right now, with Inafune revealing that the publisher has bought Canadian developer Blue Castle Games, which was responsible for Dead Rising 2 and the Dead Rising 2: Case 0 prologue.
The Xbox Live Arcade title has already sold over half a million copies since its online launch, something Capcom is keen to follow up with an epilogue episode called Dead Rising 2: Case West. Featuring original Dead Rising protagonist Frank West, of course. Inafune said that Capcom has a very good relationship with Blue Castle, and that their games still "smell of Japan."
Blue Castle is being renamed to Capcom Games Studio Vancouver, and the team is currently at work on a brand new project with producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya.
