Silent Hill 8 Confirmed as a 'Working Title'
So, the next version of survival horror classic has been confirmed for sometime in 2011 on Xbox 360 and PS3.

At the moment its working title is simply Silent Hill 8.

According to the official info "the game returns with another third-person horror experience". However, this time it comes with a "thought-provoking storyline."

Konami president, Shinji Hirano, twists some words and comes up with the fact that the game comes with, "unique evolutions in gameplay".

The game starts as "a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill. Poor old Murphy. The game comes with a main storyline and then side-quests.

Interesting but i took the trailer : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS7xj78t4dk as granted it is in development. All I can say is the twisted magic and atmosphere of the old Silent Hills where completely destroyed with Silent Hill 5. There was far too much fighting which destroyed the SH concept at the core.

Silent Hill 8? is that a misprint or am I missing something? Homecoming was the 5th right? so where's 6 and 7? or is this some type of new numbering system?

I thought they said Shattered Memories was a remake (or as they put it "re-imagining") of the first game.

Shattered Memories was a re- envisioning of the first. As such it exists separately and parallel to the story arch itself. Hard to explain without spoiling but if you don’t mind then its best you watch
*Spoilers* Shattered Memories Good Ending

Silent Hills have never had set endings. When you take into account SH 1 and SH 3 connections Harry in them can be taken as such as a creation of SH. Cheryl is the only absolute in each and therefore Shattered Memories expanded on this with a 'What If' scenario yet ingeniously maintained the overall story arch still allowing for SH1 and SH2 to exist. SH in itself is layers of multiple dimensions and taking into account multiple possibilities exist within each then eventually various outcomes can exist within the same space.

In short there are no absolutes only personally interpretation based on each character experiences. Neither is truly linked apart from the actual existence and history of SH itself. I think this is why multiple games contain the concept of some type of recording that always evolves as the story progresses symbolising the fact that even the past is not set.
