Company of Heroes Designer Dies Saving Family
Brian Woods, the Lead Designer at Relic Entertainment - who worked on such games as Company of Heroes - has died in a car crash at the age of 33.

The accident occured while Brian and his pregnant wife Erin were driving home to Whidbey Island in Washington State last week. Mr Woods is said to have manoeuvred his family's Subaru wagon so that his side of the vehicle was struck by an out of control Chevrolet Blazer rather that of his wife.

According Erin Woods speaking to local newspaper, The Province, "All the policeman say that if we had hit the car head-on all of us would be dead. At the very last second (Brian) braked really hard and turned right so that he would be put in the path of the SUV and not me and the baby, and that is the only thing that saved us both.

“I am not going to waste the gift he gave us."

The Province also reports that, "A Chevy Blazer, with four occupants, crossed the centre line when the driver tried to take her sweater off while driving, asking the other front passenger to take the wheel at the time.

"There is quite a drug history there . . . and we found some evidence of that at the scene so that leads us to believe there were drugs in their systems."

There is a memorial thread available for you to comment in at Relic.

My Man!!!
The scumbags that were in this car need to be shot!!!
My thoughts go out to Erin Woods and to the future of the young child that Brian left behind!
That man is a hero and I'm hope he knows it!!!

@Joe In the split second a person has to react on the road to avoid an accident the natural reaction is to brake and turn away which he did, man this really really sucks. I hope all those associated wind up OK emotionally, even those who caused the accident.

Major tragedy. I really hope his wife and child can get through this horrific event ok. The true definition of a hero.

@PerroMarrano

There's nothing there saying it was weed. Anyway as the old saying goes, "Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people". Rather than take the easy route and blame the drug, wouldn't it be better to look at the root cause? Stupid f***ing imbeciles driving while under the effect. I don't take drugs, but i've tried a couple and there is no way in hell I would get in a car while under the effects. Heck, I doubt I could even get into one if I wanted to!
