UK Software Charts: Mafia II Makes an Offer You Can't Refuse

2K sends the boys over to Square Enix's pad as Mafia II whacks Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days in the UK all-format software charts. This is despite a 33% sales increase for the Shanghai shooter - but Mafia II excels in that it achieves the UK's biggest game launch since Red Dead Redemption, another 2K release.

GfK Chart-Track provides some background to give you an idea as to how successful the gangster sequel is - launch week sales of its predecessor, released on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2004, add up to about 29% of Mafia II's sales this week. The Xbox 360 version of the game takes 52% of the Number 1 game's sales, with the PS3 version picking up 41% and the PC 7%.

Everything else shuffles down to make room for the new Don, as Toy Story 3 and Red Dead Redemption drop a spot on the chart. Wii Sports Resort makes a dramatic Top 10 re-entry thanks to bundled price deals on Wii hardware, and City Interactive gets its highest ever chart position with Sniper: Ghost Warrior re-entering at Number 9.
