If you're planning on spending a lot of time in the upcoming Square Enix MMO Final Fantasy XIV, you might want to think twice.Director Nobuaki Komoto has detailed plans for the game's levelling system, and it involves limiting the amount of experience points a player gets in a weekly period.
In a message to fans, translated from Japanese by
FFXIVCore, Komoto revealed that after the first eight hours of play, the experience points you earn over the following seven hours gradually reduces until you earn absolutely no EXP at all, no matter how many more additional hours you put in. This restriction will reset itself every week.
Komoto likens the gameplay mechanic to a person's "real-life fatigue from working at improving your skills via battle - no-one could train ad nauseam in the real world without any ill effects." The threshold was implemented in order to allow "those players with little time on their hands to play effectively," and "to not give those with more time on their hands to play an unfair advantage."
