Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 - Sequel Renamed, Details Dropped
The Lunatics Have Taken Over the City
Warner Brothers has slapped a brand spanking new name on the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game has been dubbed Batman: Arkham City.
That's got connotations, hasn't it? It fits with the teaser Warner Brothers released, which showed a decrepit looking Joker outside the asylum's walls.
The news was announced over on DC Comics' blog, along with a scraping of detail on what the game will be all about. The blog tells us that, "The game, which will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next fall and developed by Rocksteady Studios, expands upon the gritty, atmospheric scenery and characterization that catapulted Batman: Arkham Asylum to the forefront.
"It is set in a sequestered section of Gotham City that has become the home for the criminally insane. Players are introduced to a brand new story that bring together an ensemble cast of characters and villains from the Batman universe, as well as enhanced gameplay features that build upon the ultra-realistic Dark Knight experience that fans enjoyed with Batman: Arkham Asylum."
The whole 'sectioned off bit of the city for crazy folk' thing sounds a bit reminiscent of what was set up for The Narrows at the end of Batman Begins, doesn't it?

That's all good, but if they have Arkham City what's the point of Arkham Asylum? Is it for less dangerous patients or because the asylum needed decorating? I'm confused....

Good question, really. I wonder if they'll deal with it properly, or if it'll just be brushed to one side...

Maybe its just a bad neighbourhood and property developers have hired Batman to clean up as so they can build some nice apartments on the river front, the twist? The Joker is the property developer and is receiving financing from Wayne Enterprises, and Boy Wonder is very interested in a high profile location with his Gay lover. now i say all that I bet that would make a great facebook app! Arkham City Ville.

100% with you on this! I'm a huge great comics nerd and Arkham Asylum was hands-down the best comics-based game I've ever played. I think I'm going to go on record as 'stoked.'

Its just they have moved arkham asylum to the mainland of gotham city since the trouble they had in the first one. this was also hinted in the first one in a secret room that showed why they where moving it

1st: Jokers not old and cant do "anyfink" he is Batman`s nemesis, and not many in the Batman Universe have actual superpowers, for a need to find a better explanation its more about the psychological aspects of the criminals of Gotham,
Batman is there to strike fear within the criminals of Gotham, problem is with Joker he doesn't care Batman doesn't scare him and in fact Batman himself see`s the Joker as a personal vengeance which clouds his judgement and lets in emotion, the Joker is prolly Batman`s most complicated and difficult enemy, after all Joker sees himself and Batman as practically the same thing.
2nd: Yes you can carry on playing to 100% the Riddler tasks and Joker Chattering Teeth and other puzzles etc, and once you complete that well you can just run around but enemy`s don't re-spawn.
3rd: Joker is sick because of the effects from the ending of the first game with the genetic mutation.
4th: Arkham has been moved to a area split off from Gotham which apparently is known for thugs and underground criminals, while repairs and order is restored to Arkham Asylum, which is better than just letting them run wild in the meantime, but I doubt the recently elected Mayor Sebastian Hady will be any votes next time around.
5: Go read some Batman, go watch some Batman and go play some Arkham Asylum!! and then register and you can edit your posts lol.

@Cfan i can answer your question from what i know, it is, they have escaped again but with joker and harley Q's help and they are terrorising a part of the city. so the government has sectiioned it off, and batman has gone in.

warden sharp is now mayor of gotham and uses a slump down area of gotham to put patients from arkham asylum because most of its facilities etc are destroyed . two face wants to gain reputation in arkham city so he publicly excutes catwomen but batman decides to enter arkham city to save her
