Uncharted Film Now Without Director

Movie returns to the drawing board

Uncharted Film Now Without Director
The Los Angeles Times reports that David O. Russell - the now ex-director - of the upcoming Uncharted film has walked away from the project after negotiations broke down between himself and the producers of the film adaptation of the best-selling PS3 game.

The Uncharted film has now gone back to the drawing board and even if a new director and stars are attached to the project in double-quick time it is unlikely that the movie will release before the end of 2011.

At least until then you have the two excellent entries in the series to play on the PS3 to keep you just as entertained than the film may possibly be able to.

I do not think the themes or characters in Uncharted are strong enough to carry a feature film. The game, while excellent, has a bland and generic storyline, borrowed from a range of sources from Indiana Jones to Tomb Raider, with the average b-movie twists and turns.

All this makes for a great game.... but as a character, Nathan Drake is neither as distinctive or as charismatic as Lara Croft.

I'm inclined to agree with DoctorDee. I suppose an Uncharted film could be good, but while I enjoyed both games there's little in there that gets me excited about seeing it on the big screen. It may have something to do with the fact that Nolan North seems to have become the voice of generic videogames...

Watched (or suffered) through The Mummy 3 the other day on Sky, and it was incredible how the story was like Uncharted 2, or visa versa.

Never really found that Lara Croft, in the games, was particularly charismatic, yet I really would have liked to see the first game's story adapted to movie- twas the plot, not the characters, that boated it. Whether the characters in the Lara movies were any more or less charismatic is one for the floor,
