Capcom and Namco announced a shocker at the San Diego Comic Con last week, by revealing a partnership to develop two crossover games based on each companies' flagship franchises - Street Fighter and Tekken.Yoshinori Ono, the producer for
Street Fighter, and Katsuhiro Harada, project leader for
Tekken, announced the collaboration at the convention. Ono exclaimed that "This is history we're making.
"Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between
Tekken and
Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all,” Ono said.
Capcom will be developing a game called
Street Fighter X Tekken, which is said to be in the same vein as
Street Fighter IV - 3D models battling on a 2D plane. A tag team mode will be included so that fighters from both franchises can work together as well as competitively. The game will hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Namco, for its part, will be developing
Tekken X Street Fighter. This will put characters from both franchises into the world and game mechanics of
Tekken, rather than vice versa for Capcom's crossover. Two very different fighting games, mixing the world's best-loved fighting franchises. How epic is it going to be? Let us know in the comments box below.
