Develop 2010: Publishers Rejected Bejeweled at $60k
Dave Bishop, senior designer at Popcap, has revealed that just before the launch of Bejeweled back in 2001 his company tried to sell the game for $60,000. No-one would buy it.

Popcap now has 2m user email addresses and something like 200m Bejeweled games played per day. 50 million copies of the game have been sold over its lifespan and it still has 10m active users every month.

And no-one wanted to buy it for a paltry $60,000.

The news came from a panel at Develop, which kicked off down in Brighton today. Bishop's words dovetail with those of Sean Murray from Joe Danger publisher Hello Games, who was scathing this morning about big publishers' short-sightedness.

More from Develop as we get it.
