Square Unsure on Final Fantasy Direction
Yoichi Wada, president and CEO of Square Enix, has expressed doubt over what direction his company should take the Final Fantasy franchise in.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Wada noted that while Final Fantasy XIII has sold well, "when it comes to the customers' reaction to the quality of the game, some value it highly and some are not very happy with it."

He went on to question, "Should Final Fantasy become a new type of the game or should Final Fantasy not become a new type of game? The customers have different opinions. It's very difficult to determine which way it should go."

Peter Molyneux noted at GameHorizon recently that, because of the relatively small RPG market, Fable III will lean further into the 'action adventure' category than previous entries in the series. Would you like to see Final Fantasy do the same? Answers in the comments.

No I wouldn't, FFXIII is great but with it being so one way for half the game subsequent playthroughs end up just being the same as the first, I think FFX got it right, while linearish for the most part all your characters could do whatever, Tidus could be your Black Mage Lulu could take Aurons place etc.
Keep Final Fantasy Final Fantasy!! 13 Jul 2010 21:42

Why do you think they've made it this far! because they kept the same concept but gave each one a new story and a different take on the leveling system... that's all that should change is the leveling system and i don't mean change it to something stupid... Keep it exp based and leveling up but different like FFVII was different from VIII and IX different than X but it's still the same concept

No, keep the battle system, its heading in a good direction.
Final fantasy XIII was bad because it was linear and a whole load of other reasons.
Look at the old final fantasys like 7 and 8 and mix it together with 13's graphics and battle system and you have yourself a great game, simple!

I think Final Fantasy needs to expand into more of a sandbox experience like Oblivion and Fallout 3. I played almost all of the Final Fantasy saga and found myself being frustrated with limited options. It would be awesome if Final Fantasy adopts the character customization, open world exploration, deep dialogue options, and more.
