Sega might well be working on a PSP spinoff to the Yakuza series, but that doesn't mean to say the home console antics of Kiryu Kazuma has been completely forgotten. In fact, according to a Famitsu interview with Toshihiro Nagoshi, work on a PlayStation 3 sequel to Ryu Ga Gotoku is in the works right now.No concrete details have been revealed - as you would expect from a Famitsu reveal, the only real information we're getting is the simple fact that a "New
Yakuza Project" exists. The thing doesn't even have a name yet. But one thing we do know, is that Japanese mafia badass, Goro Majima, will be a playable character.
For those unfamiliar with the
Yakuza series, Majima was a former family leader in the Tojo Clan. He's got a bit of a crazy attitude, and is bent on fighting Kazuma on almost every occasion. Despite this, the cage-match fighter and one-time construction company CEO has a deep respect for the series' protagonist. He's undoubtedly the series' best character.
With that in mind, Nagoshi said that he wanted to delve into Majima's unique personality as a main character for some time. There's a chance for a unique story, which the team will exploit without negatively affecting the character.
While Sega doesn't want to talk too much about the game, it seems absolutely fine to tease fans with its existence.
A new website displays only a picture of Majima holding a gun, with the words "New Project Starts!" Exciting, no?
