EA: Call of Duty Influenced New Medal of Honour
The president of EA Games, Frank Gibeau, has said that the modern updates to Activision's Call of Duty series influenced the change in direction for the latest Medal of Honour title.

The upcoming soldier shooter, due for release in October, takes a markedly different approach from past games by placing the action in a modern setting. Players step into the shoes of both US Army Rangers and Tier 1 operatives in Afghanistan.

Gibeau feels that EA has a unique angle with this game, focusing on the story soldiers tell from the frontlines; "In prior wars, people would tell their stories on radio, TV, movies, books at the same time a conflict was going on. I think games as a media form are catching up to that, it's a way for soldiers to tell their story.

"We got a lot of feedback from military families [after the release of the game trailer] that was positive, and thanking us for showing stories of real guys and handling the subject in a serious way, rather than a hyperbolic 'Rambo' sort of way."

Gibeau also paused to namedrop Respawn Entertainment; the new studio formed by ex-Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella. While Gibeau stated that the publisher did not approach the two until after they had resigned from Activision, he wasn't exactly shy about his feelings over the dispute. "Their dispute with Activision became our boon; they have done amazing things and are proven world class creatives."

"I can't tell you what they are working on, but it's going to be good," he added. Aw, but we wanna know now!
