Japanese Software Charts: Mario Biggest In The Galaxy
The Nintendo DS comes back with a vengeance in this week's Japanese Software Chart (24th - 30th May 2010, courtesy Media Create). Three new entries have taken control of positions #2-4, and with Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 in #5 and the excellent Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii hitting the top spot, the chart is quite the Nintendo celebration.

1 Super Mario Galaxy 2 – Nintendo (Wii) – 339,901 / NEW
2 Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin – The Lord of Elemental – Namco Bandai (DS) – 80,764 / NEW
3 Soccer Tsuku DS: World Challenge 2010 – Sega (DS) – 50,206 / NEW
4 Medarot DS – Rocket Company (DS) – 50,164 / NEW
5 Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 – Square Enix (DS) – 33,973
6 Lost Planet 2 – Capcom (PS3) – 33,856
7 Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – Konami (PSP) – 25,465
8 World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 – Konami (PS3) – 22,168
9 New Super Mario Bros. Wii – Nintendo (Wii) – 16,279
10 DeathSmiles IIX – Cave (360) – 16,112 / NEW

(Note: Chart position is first, then game name, publisher, format and sales for this week)

Of course, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was always going to smash everything else and claim the #1 spot, but it's nice to see it sitting pretty up there anyway. You can read our review here and see for yourself how wonderful it is. The new DS contenders in question include a new Super Robot Taisen game (of course), a Sega sports management game and an RPG by Rocket Company.

The ruckus has caused previous #1, Lost Planet 2, to plummet to sixth place this week, while Konami helps keep Sony's platforms relevant by holding World Soccer Winning Eleven and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in the latter half of the Top 10. Add New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Cave's cult shooter DeathSmiles IIX and you've rounded off this week's software chart quite nicely, thank you.
