The inevitable Killzone 3 is most definitely in development for the PlayStation 3, and with it comes jetpacks, ice levels and 3D capabilities. A preview featuring in an upcoming issue of GamePro magazine details Sev, Rico and the ISA's continuing firefight against a regrouped Helghast army.
Guerrilla's managing director Hermen Hulst said to the magazine, "It's the story of David battling Goliath, but this time you are David. That's the big shift in going from Killzone 2 to Killzone 3." To be honest, Killzone 2 felt enough like a battle against the odds, so we can only imagine how much hurt this sequel is going to bring.
New additions to play include the aforementioned jetpack, which comes with a mounted machinegun - which enemies will also be equipped with - and a weapon called the Wasp, which fires multiple rockets in a short space of time. Melee moves have been overhauled, and finishers such as head stomps and pistol-whips can be achieved when an orange icon appears during combat.
A level set in sub-zero temperatures will be among the landscapes you'll be fighting in, and this surrounds you in oilrigs and tankers cased in mountains of ice. An interactive dropship sequence will be present in this mission, following complaints from players that the Killzone 2 intro wasn't playable.
The 3D mode will be optional, requires glasses and according to GamePro, works best if you're sitting centrally. Hopefully it won't affect the performance of the game too much - the magazine did not specify whether this was the case.
