Sega has announced that Virtual On Force will be getting a high definition update for the Xbox 360, adding Xbox Live multiplayer support and four-player split-screen play to the 2001 arcade mech shooter. The news comes after the success of the Xbox Live Arcade re-release of predecessor
Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, but
Force will not follow its example by instead being a retail, disc-based product. The conversion will be based off of arcade version 7.7 and will host 13 Virtualoid mechs to smash enemies about in.
Virtual On is a popular third-person shooter game where opposing giant robots plod around digital scenery blasting the hell out of each other.
Force threw some added strategy to the series by introducing two-on-two team play. The result is a multiplayer mode called "Leader Battle" in which teams try to destroy (and defend) each other's designated 'leaders.'
According to
Famitsu, the game is about 30 per cent complete, and is on track for a Winter release in Japan. This week's looking good for the Xbox 360 and Sega games in Japan, particularly as a
countdown teaser for a secret project continues.
