Ubisoft To Follow EA's Used Game Sales Scheme
Ubisoft will start offering additional content to gamers who purchase new copies of its games. The publisher said that it is "looking very carefully at what is being done at Electronic Arts" with its '10 dollar solution' and that it will be initiating a similar programme "at some time in the future."

The move follows in the footsteps of EA's scheme, which rewards new-game buyers with free content and DLC. Those who purchase used copies of games such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Mass Effect 2 will need to pay an additional $10 USD to access the bonus material. It's a system designed to offset money lost through second hand sales.

Ubisoft's Chief Financial Officer Alain Martinez said, "Most of the games we will release next year will have downloadable content available from the start," suggesting the publisher's scheme will start at some point in 2011.

CEO Yves Guillemot added that he hopes both retailers and consumers will be pleased with the plan. "We have the system in place to actually generate more revenue on the second-hand market."
