Square Enix Edges To The Extreme
Square Enix is to launch a new brand in Japan to help consumers identify the violent and extreme Western titles it publishes.

Yoichi Wada told magazine Famitsu that the Square Enix Extreme Edges label will be applied to games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days to make them stand out for fans of bloody violence. Similarly, it will double as a warning beacon for those who wish to avoid such content.

Curiously, only Western-developed titles that are certified CERO D (ESRB 17+) and CERO Z (ESRB "Adults Only") are said to be included in this label. Surely wouldn't it be just as useful to place Japanese-developed titles under this brand as well?

In either case, Square Enix will not be the first publisher to make such a move. Back in January Nintendo changed the box and label colour for Wii games rated CERO C and up to black for similar reasons.
