The Capcom comments continue! This time it's Dead Rising's producer Shinsaku Ohara, who has vowed to make the zombie-battering sequel more like a Western-developed game.
"The first Dead Rising was built in a very Japanese style," Shinsaku told CVG. "We had some help from America, but basically it was all done in a Japan. We wanted to do it better for a Western audience this time."
Efforts to work with collaborative developer Blue Castle is an example of just how 'non-Japanese' Capcom wants Dead Rising 2 to be. It's another example of the changing trends in the Japanese games industry - of developers looking towards the West to establish a greater chance of market success.
According to Shinsaku though, the team-up has paid off. "Together, we've come up with crazier ideas than we did in the first game. What we didn't quite manage in Dead Rising 1 was that it still felt too Japanese. We're much closer to feeling like a Western game with this title."
With ex-Sony MD David Reeves now the CEO of Capcom Europe, we can expect plenty more Western-focused titles from the publisher. We just hope that traditionally 'Japanese' titles don't suffer in the process. Mega Man 11 Featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger? No thanks.
