Platinum Games revealed its latest title, Vanquish, in late January with few details to go on. Today director Shinji Mikami, best known for Resident Evil, spoke with Famitsu on his first game in four years.
Vanquish will be hitting the Xbox 360 and PlayStation as a multiplatform title, with Sega assuming publishing duties as it did with Bayonetta. In describing the game, Mikami simply answered "Shooter" - the reason being that it is being developed with the Western audience in mind.
"Making a normal shooter wouldn't be interesting," said Mikami. "So it has the concept of the feeling of speed and good tempo, and something flashy. There are lots of games where you shoot and kill people, so this time we wanted to try and see how we could convey the good feeling of shooting robots."
So it breaks away from the Western norm - shooting and killing people - by applying the Japanese norm - shooting and killing robots. Not quite the surprising twist really, but hey it's Shinji Mikami so we'll just shut the hell up right now.
Vanquish will be released in Japan this Winter.
