Sega to go up for sale? Plus: bonus ‘most Japanese quote ever’ inside!
There are rumours making their way around the World Wide Super Interweb Highway that Sega is about to be put up for sale by parent company, CSK Inc.

The company today announced that it will be undergoing a massive restructuring process at the end of this financial year, ending March 2002. Rumour has it that CSK is ruminating over the possibilities surrounding the sale of Sega and fellow subsidiary ASCII.

As usual, Microsoft is the suspected interested party, although nothing could be confirmed at this point.

The news follows the renaming of Team AM2 at Sega to Sega-AM2 Co and its consolidation with CSK’s other research and development arm CSK Research. This move, so exact in nature, has lead analysts to believe that CSK is gearing up to sell part of its games software business.

“By taking this occasion, we decided to change our company name by adapting these honorable 'Sega' and 'AM2' brands and restart for goal with refreshed spirit and exiting (exciting, surely?) enthusiasm for success”, the company said in a statement. How very Japanese!
