OK, so Red Steel wasn't so hot. That didn't stop Ubisoft from giving the Wii action game another go, and all signs are pointing to Red Steel 2 being pretty good this time around. Of course, failure is not an option for the Paris developers."It was clear from the beginning we had to succeed. It was absolutely crucial. It was obvious that, if
Red Steel 2 came out and it was not well-received by the fans, we were done," said creative director Jason Vandenberghe in a
recent interview. "There would be no
Red Steel 3."
Naturally, getting two strikes won't even allow Ubisoft an attempt for a third, with Vendenberghe acknowledging that
Red Steel 2 is coming hot on the heels of an underwhelming title. "There would be no point in continuing that: once is an offense, twice is a pattern."
Despite this, the creative director said that such pressure helped him keep the team focused on nothing but quality gameplay, and to maintain a low profile to avoid over-hyping the game and getting distracted. It's an admirable way of tackling a problem.
Red Steel 2 hits the Wii on the 26th March, are you looking forward to it?
