Plus: Sh*t reviews from America

Rebellion in Talks with SEGA on "Ongoing Support" for AvP
Here's a strange one. Rebellion, the developer of the UK's fastest selling, and Number One, game of the year is currently in discussions with Aliens vs Predator publisher SEGA "about ongoing support for AvP, and also about a sequel to the game."

This is according to none other than Rebellion CEO, Jason Kingsley (speaking to Develop).

It appears strange that with the game released, there are still negotiations required for support.

Mr Kingsley, while happy with the release of the game based on Fox properties ("Fox are excited about what we’re doing, and we feel we’ve added value to the franchise.") is less pleased with some reviews that the title received. Specifically, reviews from the United States.

"The reviews have been mostly good. We’ve had three totally shit reviews by some Americans, which is a bit odd. Some of them were inexcusably bad."

However, there's one thing to do with bad reviews, ignore them. “If you discount those poor reviews AvP is averaging high for us", says Mr Kingsley.

Could the bad reviews have any possible grounding in reality? Ours will be published this week, once we've played the game to death. You can decide then.

I think its a bit early in the year to be calling the UK's fastest selling game of the year. Should soon be BF Bad company which comes out just next week.

To be fair Rebellion have done a good job, its just not great. In my opinion they should take the critisism on the chin, build on what is being said, if they can improve it in this version then do it ASAP and if not then hopefully the next one will be a great game. Just not as good as the AVP2 game in my mind.

i dont play online, so my comments only apply to the SP portion of the game... but personally, i love it. i like it a lot more than the first two. id buy a new predator or alien campaign right this minute if they were available, and i hope we get some additional content down the road...

Having read some of these so called "bad reviews," I am inclined to agree with mr Kingsley. One reviewer in particular had complaints such as the predator relying too much on stealth, aliens being able to walk on walls and roofs and marines having the motion tracker.

Anyone with some basic knowledge of the respective franchises would understand how incredibly ignorant and unfounded such complaints would be.

I think the game is pretty good actually. It would have been great if there was an offline non/steam option for single/lan play. Couldn't you have a Steam OR Securom protection or something similar? Regards

Well, here's what I have to say about the bs regarding this game: After extended play time & much deliberation on the current release of the AVP3 title. As of Wednesday 24 of feb 2010 there are still no dedicated servers here in Australia for gamers, which leaves the undeniable underlying thought behind this release, "Is this Title just a Beta Release"?

Further more, to elaborate; The Multi-player aspect can't be taken seriously, where the **** are the dedicated servers? I thought I'd re-affirm this major point. I've also heard from almost every person I've added as a friend since, or whilst waiting for what seems like forever for a ranked match session, some body has said or spoken of the many underlying failures of expectation surrounding the esteemed release by SEGA & Rebellion.

At one point, people could AIMBOT with a PC Version of Steam, using an attached Joystick (or pad ), simply by pressing fire on the gamepad you got HS every time. The Alien (my personal choice) after hours & hours of game play, I still get disorientated trying to navigate through simple doorways thinking, where the **** am I, & how the **** did I end up here. Sure enough the Aliens development was headed in the right track, it genuinely expresses the movement of how one would imagine the movements of the Alien would be, but by all means, don't tell us you've released a complete game, force us to fork out $60-$70 AUD on an "Official Game-Release" & have simple navigation & movement issues that wouldn't genuinely typify an 'Official Release'.

I did like the Ranked Match aspect of the game, however (among other tedious deterrents the Ranked Scenario might have projected) one major thing that stood out a term that should be coined to this game, or the completely revised name of the Title, called "Good Game VS Disconnected" (for the subsequent disconnections that would remain consistent in connecting to undedicated servers), or a term I called wffs (Waiting For ****'s Sake) as it would seem like forever you would just be waiting for the already Infamous "One More Player".

In the duration of my extended play-time of AvP, I duly noted the comeplexity, & marvelled at the complexity of the Ranked Macth scenario's. I'm not if many people picked up on this, & I'm sure it's another hidden perks the developers forgot to mention (among other things), & that is how the ranked matches are arranged.

I noticed (for instance), the Marines (while naturally) are every ones least favoured playable character in-game, but they rack-up incredible EXP points for playing through. I thought it was humorous, just like the Marines would in their predicament I could imagine them saying "We hate being here, but hell were gettin Paid" lol. Also another interesting point was the match making seemed progressive, almost as though players were being assigned to each other based on their session stand-outs, & of which case at the end of the progressive scenario, the evenings (or progressive session more likely) league leaders would be pitted death match climax as though it were a debate for who was the Ugliest M********* of them all.

To remain consistent here, I'm going to point out that absolutely no dedicated servers for this game as of post-release date is to be put quite frankly, "n00b" & "Unrealistic", in the citation that you might be able to absorb some the Authentic Gaming Communities into circling frenzies surrounding your title, but other than the mindless gamers out there who will buy whatever's promoted well or us Authentic Gamers ho have been playing pong & space invaders as kids, & yes bubble bubble, wonder boy, Alex the Kid, SF2 "The Next Gen" in 88 onwards, your not going to fool us. We know what a good game is & you can take this game, & by all means Update it a little (did I mention it needs Dedicated-Support?), you might win our Vote.

As an extreme enthusiast I've seen the demise of this game (from a personal stand-point), I really can't see the point in the extended play of this game when I'm trying to master functionalities that wern't tweaked for Professional Gameplay, meaning. This Game will never go Pro, without at least patching the f**k outta this Title & adding Dedicated Server support. Also tweaking & expanding the functionality of the characters. You guys can really develope this title a little more, dont you think?

AvP the Arcade Game, although released mid-nineties is still a better Title. I dunno, introduce a combo system, after clicking "E" when your behind. Expand this please. So after my lengthy venting of RAGE I'm gonna go & try to express myself on AvP a little more. After 5 days straight playing this game, & try to delve into the possible mastering of this game, without at all feeling a little perturbed that maybe, my dreams of Victory & Valor of being the best of the best, may not be a ladder an Extreme Gaming Enthusiast could climb.

There's so much more things I could point out, but it's quite obvious the most stand-out problems need to be addressed, first of all is Support.

My two cents, PEACE!

Single player is awesome!

Multiplayer is horrible. I mean horrible. Its like they never played a new FPS in the last 10 years.

There is so much wrong with it. It.. just feels wrong and forced out like they put it together at the last minute.

Im a very seasoned 40 year old gamer who plays PC titles through choice. I am an avid fan of anything ALIEN and while i think this game could have been epic I am incredibly dissapointed.
My biggest gripe is: THE MULTIPLAYER NET CODE. FFS why couldnt they have gotten it right. Never get a full list of games to browse, no ping, joining one type of game invariably puts me into maps/game types i have no interest in playing.
Next, SINGLEPLAYER. Where did my save games go????? where did my achievements go?????? where did my skins go????????.

This, in my mind, is nothing more than a beta.

And games companies wonder why games are pirated.

Ok, thats off my chest. Nuff said for now. Will see how the patch to be released tomorrow works out.
