Syphon Filter backs away from PlayStation 2
Jeff Ross, the brain behind the stealth classic Syphon Filter series, has spoken about his decision to stick with the PlayStation for the third in the series.

“Syphon Filter was intended as a Trilogy and it's only fitting that the game is finished up on the platform on which it began.” Said Ross. “We have more than a strong following on the PS One, and we wouldn’t want to let all those fans down by making a game for a system they may not own yet. As for those fans who already own a PS2, they will be able to play our game on their new system.” Hmmm… An interesting decision and, if true, which we are not doubting for a minute, this is a first in the industry.

Speaking about the new features included in Syphon Filter 3, Ross said, “The gameplay has been designed to be more open to the player. They can approach a situation from several different angles, and unlike SF2, there are many ways to pass specific obstacles and there are several outcomes to most situations. We also realized that many players enjoy the “run-and-gun” play style, while others prefer stealth.” Ross goes on, “Many of the missions are designed to support both styles of gameplay. A player will be provided with the weapons to be both stealthy as well as the gun-blazing operative. If a player chooses to focus on stealth, they will find the gameplay very different than those who want to kill everyone in sight.”

Syphon Filter 3 is due out later this year for PlayStation. A PlayStation 2 sequel is planned.
