Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has told SPOnG that he would be interested in a collaboration with Eidos' Montreal studio, and that recent comments from Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada about the future of the series isn't exactly a cemented decision. In an interview that will be published in full later today, the Square Enix developer – who has worked on many
Final Fantasy games in the past – spoke of the challenges that Japanese developers now face in the global games industry, and suggested that a tie-up with the recently-integrated Eidos studios is on the cards.
“[During a trip to Eidos Montreal] I witnessed very different and interesting styles of making games. It's a different sort of culture in Canada, with a different kind of attitude to what we're used to in Japan,” Kitase explained. “I think it would be interesting to have some kind of collaboration with them on a project. Not necessarily for something with
Final Fantasy, but that would be interesting for something in the future.”
Addressing comments from Yoichi Wada that suggested that
Final Fantasy is
due for a major shake-up, Kitase reveals that nothing has been set in stone. “I don't know if he said that personally, but if he did he probably did mean that there's a slim chance [
Final Fantasy XIII]
might be the last of its kind, yes. But whether that will definitely be the case or not has yet to be determined at the company. It's not a confirmed decision for us, at all.”
Keep your eyes peeled on SPOnG for the full interview, later today.
