Ubisoft wants to hit Japan in a big way according to an interview given to Famitsu by executive director for the European, Middle East, and Asia/Pacific territories, Alain Corre. The French company's ambitions go beyond work currently being carried out at its Nagoya studio, which is "working on a casual game for the Nintendo DS right now", says Corre. As for the future, "we are currently investing in Japanese development studios. We'll be able to reveal more about these projects in a year's time."
So, what does Ubisoft see itself competing with? Why
Final Fantasy and
Dragon Quest of course.
"Our mission", says Corre, "is to create hit games on the same level as
Final Fantasy and
Dragon Quest. We'd like to see everyone in Japan root for us. Perhaps someday our efforts will result in a major hit on the level of a
Dragon Quest."
Bon chance!
