A new
Grand Theft Auto 4 episode brings new ways of smacking your friends about a bit. Following on from the new multiplayer modes introduced in
The Lost and Damned episode,
The Ballad of Gay Tony will also provide
GTA fans with all the deathmatching they can handle.
Rockstar has just revealed to us what those multiplayer modes involve, which throws in the classic every-man-for-himself deathmatch and team deathmatch modes with an added twist. Killing your enemies will earn you contract money, and you can also add to your cash pile by stealing from wounded players too.
Amidst the action you can earn an additional $25 for assisting kills, and $125 for ending a player's killing streak. Starting your own streak will get you health and armour bonuses.
Up to 16 players can take part in the firefight, with new weapons that add to the online action. Among the sticky bombs and parachute that we mentioned in
our Ballad of Gay Tony preview, you can arm yourself with an explosive shotgun, Pistol .44, Assault or Gold SMGs, improved sniper rifles and an Advanced MG.
You can choose to fight in a contained location like the CC Plaza, Firefly Island, Varsity Heights and Acter Power Station; or you can engage in Free Mode, which gives you a wide open sandbox space to create total mayhem. With no rules and no guidelines, anything goes and anything is at your disposal. Rockstar has added the Buzzard attack helicopter and the N.O.O.S.E APC to the Free Mode too, adding to the mayhem.
There are other modes as well, including a Race and GTA Race mode, but Rockstar is being as tight-lipped as a stern granny about what these entail. But we'd hazard a guess that racing's involved. Either way we'll find out soon, as
The Ballad of Gay Tony is due to hit Xbox Live on the 29th October.
