EA's Mad Max Defence of Left 4 Dead 2 Banning
Australia still labours under a ratings system that lacks a range that will enable adults to play games like grown-ups. The latest governmental embarrassment for Aussie gamers is the banning of EA's Left 4 Dead 2 due to violence.

EA's Tiffany Steckler has delved into her bag of cultural references to express her disbelief at the banning order. "It’s funny that a place like Australia, which has come up with some pretty violent material in the past with something like Mad Max, can effectively ban video games for the same reason" was her way of casting insight into the matter.

We're not sure if comparing a huge Australian revenue earning movie to a huge US-earning video game in terms of how violent they are is going to convince each entrenched state and territory government to change the system.

I can understand their disappointment, and I think that EA should man up, and take the Australian government to court, because they are deliberately fudging an R18 rating for games and have been doing so for some time now. EA have the funds to make this happen, and should also submit the figures for the ages of gamers that play L4D.

They will continue to deny such games, until someone in the games industry challenges them on their biased attitude towards mature games, when mature films get a free pass by censors. I'm sure that there's a good case, that could be made out of this.

Its also a shame that aussie gamers, do little to help change the way things are. Oh well, good luck importing a PAL copy, gamers.
