Japanese newspaper Yomiuri has reported the costs incurred by legendary developer SquareSoft during the production of Final Fantasy X.
In total, Square forked out over four billion yen for the PlayStation 2 title. This equates to almost 23 million squids!
This spending far exceeds anything the company has done in the past. Final Fantasy IX came in at less than half this amount.
The only thing that could possibly top this kind of cash rich development would be something like a full length FMV motion picture. So far, the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within has cost $137 million from an initial budget of $70 million.
