Japanese RPG fanatics will be pleased to learn that Square Enix's flagship title,
Final Fantasy XIII, has a release date of the 17th December 2009. The news comes from an official flash advert that had been seen on
Japanese Youtube pages.
The date was initially discovered yesterday, as imageboard-goers on 2ch apparently dug into the flash banner (which yesterday sported a different design and was simply teasing the release date, not announcing it) and changed the URL slightly in order to find the hidden information. It appears that it was simply a case of changing the word "Before" in the .swf file to "After" to get the desired result. They don't make 'em like they used to, do they?
Regardless, the news makes good on Square Enix's vows that the game would arrive in 2009.
Final Fantasy fans in the US will have to wait until 2010, and Europe... well, we could be waiting forever.
