150k sold in a week

Japan Goes Gaga for PS3 Slim
We thought that following the fact that PS3 Slim bundled Kidou Senshi Gundam Senki sold 150k in its first day, PS3 Slim sales themselves might be 'healthy', we just didn't realise how healthy.

According to Famitsu, the console has sold 150,252 units since its launch on September 3rd.

This follows news that PS3 Slim outsold each of its competitors (Wii, Xbox 360, DS Lite) in the UK with a mammoth 11-fold increase in sales on the previous week.

Bear in mind with the Japanese stat that the launch of the PS3 in November 2006 saw 88,000 of the phat Sony consoles sold - that sub-100k figure has been blamed on under-supply.

Given that you'd already reported that sales from the previous week were "almost dead" due to people holding off for the Slim, an eleven fold increase doesn't necessarily mean much. What's the increase compared to, say, the same week's PS3 Fat sales from last year? Or from it's launch? They'd be slightly better comparisons.

Still, seems like a wise move by Sony to bring out a cosmetic change to generate sales. Well done to them.

@irritant "Almost dead" in ajapn, 11-fold increase in UK. Not related, but may be similar situations?

Good point. I really should learn to read.

Mind, I think my point still stands. I would imagine sales of the PS3 Fat in the UK also plummeted once the Slim was made official.
