It was never unlikely and now it's confirmed - Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
The company hasn't given up much by way of detail, except to say that the game will be on the platform this "fall".
"Chinatown Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod touch", uttered Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. "We are very excited to bring this incredibly ambitious version of Liberty City, with this level of detail and immersive gameplay on Apple's new gaming platforms."
Chinatown Wars is currently available on DS, with a PSP version due in October.
Also bound for the iPhone and iPod Touch is Beaterator, Rockstar's music collaboration with Timbaland. The music game will also be with us on iPhone this "fall".

Cool! Are they going to do a version for my washing machine too?
Porting games to every platform possible used to make financial sense and it didn't matter content wise as ultimately all games were controlled with similar hardware, but now we've got so many different ways to control games depending on the platform, it might make financial sense to the developers/publishers but from the point of view of the player experience, very few iPhone games ported from "traditional" control systems just don't work.
The best iPhone games by far at the ones made specifically for the hardware, not the ones ported from button control systems.
