GSC Game World looking for another chart-topper.

Virgin Interactive has signed up the world publishing rights (excluding Eastern Europe) to Codename: Outbreak, GSC Game World’s next PC CD-ROM blockbuster. Due for release in September 2001, the tactical first-person shooter is being developed by the team behind the hugely successful Cossacks, a recent number one in the PC charts.

Based in Kiev in the Ukraine, GSC Game World is becoming increasingly known for its ability to push genres further than ever before. Having already successfully conquered the real-time strategy genre, they’ve now turned their attention to the first-person shooter market, and the signs are Codename: Outbreak will blow everyone away.

A jaw-dropping display engine will boast resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 as players are treated to a game world boasting directional lighting, dynamic colour illumination, volumetric fog, realistic water surfaces, and figures comprising up to 1000 polygons – all wrapped in a stunning particle system explosion system. You can see from the accompanying screenshots, it’s looking pretty special – and the game is still not yet quite complete.

“GSC Game World is a hugely talented team, and their skill of releasing original PC tiles successfully is becoming increasingly unrivalled,” says Roy Campbell, Managing Director, Virgin Interactive UK, “and Virgin is delighted to have won the rights to what we believe will be another ground-breaking title.”

Codename: Outbreak is due to be released by Virgin Interactive in September 2001.
