The PS3 Slim(mer) seems to have gone down well with the world in general. Sony's new, less arrogant personality is also settling in. Yet, somehow, John Koller, Sony's director of hardware marketing still suffers from an inability to speak in straight lines. Ars recently encountered the poor man's speech impediment as he attempted to actually say something meaningful about price cuts and the new model. We translate.
On the Slim:
"This will be the hardware moving forward" - trans: this is the new console.
On the fact that you can't install another operating system:
"There are a couple of reasons. We felt we wanted to move forward with the OS we have now." trans - there are some technical and cost reasons that I don't really understand so I'll say 'forward' again as that sounds positive.
"We wanted to standardize our OS." - trans: I have absolutely no idea what I'm saying but it sounds good.
On backwards compatibility:
"It's not coming back, so let me put that on the table" - trans - well, let's give him his due, that was so very nearly a straight answer but John's speech impediment disabled him from actually being able to complete it without adding something entirely meaningless.
On killing the Spider-Man font:
"[The new design] will be the logo moving forward, that will be in place on the hardware and peripherals and software, starting with Uncharted 2." trans - again, a fact sneaks in past the ever positive use of 'moving forward'.
So, there you go:
1) The new console is the new console and will replace the old console.
2) Backwards compatibility is not happening so shut up about it with firmware 3.0.
3) The new logo is the new logo.
