Eidos and its new owner, Square Enix, are going to be working on a new intellectual property together. Damn it, we're going to stick our necks out and call the IP... "A Game".
Queried about established IPs jumping between studios, Square's CEO and president, Yoichi Wada, said, "But what's more important is that the two companies, for example, are going to be creating a new IP together. What's going to be important is to be able to get a mutual understanding of each of the quarters so that we will be able [to create it], and what is going to be born from this new unity."
OK, so technically, there aren't two companies since the buyout - there's one. Technically, any IP created by Eidos is Square's anyway. But what Wada seems to be getting at is that the creative talent from what have seemingly been kept as two brands will be knocking their heads together to make something brand-spanking new.
Wada also noted that IPs will jump between the two parties, so we'll see Square properties developed by Eidos studios and vice versa. It was also said that, with Square having fingers in the anime and manga pies, we might see Square's non-gaming IP developed into games by Eidos and Eidos properties nudged into comics and cartoons.
We'd like to see a
Star Oceanic HitRaider Go!Go!Go! manga, please.
