You would think that Square Enix was the authority on when, exactly,
Final Fantasy XIII will come out. You'd be wrong. Asked at an earnings press conference whether the game will be released inside this fiscal year, the publisher blasphemed in at least two ways - depending on which translation you read.
"God knows. ... Is the truth (laughs). I'll try!" was the answer according to
finalfantasyunion. Thanks to the wonders of translation, however, that's not the only answer floating around the Internet.
According to
Kotaku the answer, which came from Square CEO Yoichi Wada, was, “Lord knows… That’s not true... We’ll do our best!” The site adds that Wada said
FFXIII sales were implied in his company's financial forecasts.
Back in February Wada was
none too confident about FFXIII shipping in a timely manner, although since then the
official website has indicated that, at least somewhere in the world and on some system, the game will be out for Winter this year. When we say 'somewhere in the world', of course, we mean 'Japan'.
It's been
said by the game's producer that
FFXIII will be out in the rest of the world “sooner than a year later than the Japanese release”.
Any way you look at it, Square seems less than confident that
FFXIII will be loose in the world inside this year. Do not, under any circumstances, hold your breath... or Our Lord the Little Baby Crazy Jebus will take you!
