Codemasters has unveiled its upcoming plans for the official Formula 1 license, which it won in May last year.

Things kick off this year with the (excitingly-named!) F1 2009 for the Wii and PSP. The game will feature official tracks, cars, teams and drivers. Confirmed drivers include Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and UK-based world champion, Lewis Hamilton (despite the fact that EA reportedly bought the license to his name in 2009 and we've yet to see a resulting game).

Following that will be a high-definition release - F1 2010, scheduled for release on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 in Spring next year.

The game will make use of Codemasters’ EGO Engine technology, which sat in the BAFTA award-winning (and rather good) Race Driver: GRID.

Codies' chief executive, Rod Cousens, seems pretty chuffed. “F1 2009 is the start of something very special for Codemasters and will set the standard for the high definition versions that will follow in spring 2010. Our studios are working extremely closely with Formula One Management Limited and the teams to produce the most authentic and thrilling experience possible", he said.

“We are delighted with the level of support and access afforded to us so far, enabling us to get as close to the sport as possible".

There's no word on who's developing the games as yet.
