Commemorating what exactly?

Codemasters is apparently considering a 'commemorative edition' of Colin McRae DiRT according to the family of the late Scots rally champion.

Back in November last year Codemasters confirmed that, Colin McRae, would indeed feature in Colin McRae: DiRT 2.

Codemasters has confirmed that "Colin doesn't feature as a character but will make an appearance. I can't really go into detail but I can say there will be a tribute to him at the culmination.

"We want the nature of it to be a surprise for people."

It appears that McRae's family is all for it, telling The Daily Record newspaper, "After great deliberation, the merchandising side of McRae Motorsport will continue but obviously in a different format.

"The latest version of the driving game Colin McRae: Dirt continues to exceed all sales forecasts."

Mmmm... there's a good reason for a commemoration if ever we saw one. The spokesperson then dropped the 'commemorative edition' news, "Codemasters are now looking into issuing a commemorative edition as a tribute to Colin."

Now, we may be a little on the time-worn side here, but isn't 'issuing a commemorative edition' simply shorthand for 'selling a game with McRae's name on it'?

We've contacted Codies for details.
