Sonic celebrates his birthday in style with cameo in Phantasy Star Ver 2

Sonic Team’s latest creation, Phantasy Star Ver 2, will feature several characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Sega of Japan has released several new screens featuring some of the most famous furry ring collectors and even Dr Robotnik.
Sonic Team said that the inclusion is to commemorate the anniversary of the blue spiky one though no-one was willing to say what function, if any, the characters would possess. It is even possible that there will be a whole Sonic-themed world in the new game complete with famous enemies from the series. Remember that evil pinball-type robot in Casino Night Zone from Sonic 2?
All the shots that Sega has released thus far show Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Robotnik hanging around the lobby area speaking Japanese so it’s difficult to tell what is going on. The only Japanese we know between us is ‘fierce punch’, ‘quick punch’ and, erm, Miyamoto.
