Britain won't be joining Europe...

Sony: No UK PS2 Price Cut
Sony has said that, despite a PS2 price cut in the rest of Europe and the US, we won't be getting a similar drop in RRP here in the UK.

"There are currently no plans to cut the price of PS2 in the UK", a Sony rep told SPOnG. That leaves the recommended retail price of the PS2 at £94.99.

No comment was available on why we won't see the price cut reflected over here.

In Europe and America the price has dropped to €99.99 and $99.99 respectively. That's £92.98 and £69.90 by today's abysmal rate of exchange. That makes us not much worse off than Europe, if not quite so close to the US pricing.

The fact that the PS2's price is already below that mental price watermark of £100 certainly doesn't help the UK's case for a price cut.

Pressure on UK pricing is also evident in Nintendo's recent decision to increase the cost of the Wii to retailers.

Time for that PII machine suggestion I did a graphic of last year to knock the Wii out of Nintendo ;) and an upgrade of the PSP too knock the DiSh out of them too. Good multimedia DTV recording capability, PSP+ upgrade of the machine, and motion detection. With PS3 getting similar capability.

Honestly if only the XBOX 360 had Blue Ray and motion that they had been holding off, at the prices they do now, I would consider it. Even Multimedia DTV recording in built in all units.

If it wasn't for both companies interest in selling DTV recorders, maybe we would have had it, and maybe they would have had more success in the face of Wii.

If only I could buy an Arcade pack that allowed me to rip out the drive and replace it with a Blue Ray burner and had space for a standard Hard disk, that would have been good. Hopefully the network version of the xbox allows you to do this and has a full Windows embedded application bundle.

Remember the Amiga side-card, a simple case that had a small circuit board with a PC processor and space for a hard drive. The processor ran PC software and used the Amiga for IO interfacing. The same could be done with the PS3 and it's 3D processor and hard drive.
