Take-Two has revealed that the 13 million units of
Grand Theft Auto IV it has sold are split more or less evenly across platforms.
Speaking in a conference call following Take-Two's recent financials, one analyst asked, "...can you give us an idea as to this 13 million
GTA 4 units, how many of those are Xbox 360 platform? So what's the addressable market for the downloadable
The Lost and Damned."
The response from Lainie Goldstein, CFO of Take-Two, was, "It's approximately 50/50, Ed."
It should be borne in mind, of course, that while that split probably refers to Xbox 360/PS3, the game is out on three platforms. Where's the PC version? Were its sales so negligible that they weren't worth a mention? It seems unlikely, given that 24% of Take-Two's revenue for most recent quarter came from PC game sales and a large chunk of that must have been
GTA IV for Games for Windows.
It should also be borne in mind that the 13 million sales were as of January 31st - two and a half weeks prior to the launch of the 360-exclusive
Lost and Damned.
Speaking about the geographical breakdown - US sales versus international sales - Goldstein added, "It's about 50/50 there as well."
