Microsoft: NXE on Game Disc is Nothing New
There's been much ado around the Internet about the fact that Xbox 360 games have started appearing with a mandatory New Xbox Experience update. Microsoft, however, has gone on record to state there's nothing new about this.

A Microsoft rep told GameDaily.biz, "It has always been standard protocol for Microsoft to include the latest version of the Xbox 360 dashboard on game discs. This is not unique to the New Xbox Experience update. To enhance platform security, Xbox 360 owners who are not connected to Xbox LIVE will have their consoles updated to the current system software from game discs they purchase at retail. The New Xbox Experience which launched in November 2008 is now included on new Xbox 360 game discs."

It was widely reported that Ubisoft's H.A.W.X. and 2K’s MLB: 2K9 are the first games to feature an on-disc mandatory update, but it looks as though many more will follow - if they aren't already out there.

Any way you look at it, it seems we can finally put the blade interface well and truly to rest.

Are you an Xbox 360 owner without Live? Has a new game forced an update on your machine? Let us know in the Forum.

The Much-Ado is around the fatc the NXE (being a lrge file size) is placed upon the video layer, therefore making the less honest amongst us who prefer to burn there game to disc, unable to play the game with Stealth firmware, that is until the next firmware (which is imminent) is released, although i highley doubt this was a anti piracy atempt by MS.

For a long time now a few gamers have complained that because they dont have an internet connection that they wish their was a way to get the latest update etc well now there is in the case of NXE on disc.
Pirates will always find a way of pirating games the only way around it is to annoy gamers at the same time...

If that's the case, why don't they just offer a disc with the NXE on it. Not a game with it also on it. I mean just by itself. Couldn't cost much. DVD's cost about 10p a pop to companies these days.

But why do that which will cause more work and you have to wait etc when they can easily put the file alongside the game? Why put a few hundred meg or if that worth of data on a seperate dvd and as you said even if its 10p times that by the work required to make it all happen it could cost millions.

no, you're right.

ok, why not then:

just put it on the disc as usual, but not make it mandatory. then people can have it if they like, but dont HAVE to.
