Has another death knell been sounded for bricks and mortar retail? As far as Capcom is concerned, digital distribution is more important for PC gaming than retail. So says Christian Svensson, VP of strategic planning at Capcom.
Asked bluntly, "Is digital distribution more important to the PC than retail?", Svensson responded, "For me? Absolutely. No question in my mind. Digital distribution on PC ties directly into our strategy."
Unequivocal enough for you? We thought so. Svensson added that, "We will probably do as much digital selling as retail in the current climate."
Combine this with Sony's concentration on upping its digital delivery; Microsoft's belief in this being the way forward; the ongoing success of Steam, and Nintendo's continuing Virtual Console strategy, and times are definitely interesting for boxed copies at least in areas with good broadband connectivity.
