In a statement that will shock you only if you got genuinely upset by the death of Batman and the revelation that Santa Claus might not actually slide down your chimney every year, Frank O'Connor has hinted that
Halo's Master Chief may well grace our consoles again. Take that in tandem with a recent Microsoft job posting and it looks like development of a new 'full' instalment in the
Halo series might be getting underway.
O'Connor, now working as
Halo franchise development director, told
USA Today, "I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief."
That comment stops being a statement of the obvious and becomes a little more interesting when you then take a look at a
job opening Microsoft recently posted. The company is looking for "a strong Lead Designer to help develop a new experience in the
Halo universe."
Microsoft has confirmed that this person will join its internal
Halo team created last year to work on new Halo projects and support existing ones.
This "new experience" isn't forced to be a brand new game starring the Chief, of course. It's possible this is the Peter Jackson
Halo Chronicles project. Given the fact that's supposed to have been in development for some time and Jackson's own Wingnut studios is meant to be leading development, however, that's not too likely.
With
Halo Wars now out, the next gaming instalment in the
Halo franchise will be
Halo 3: ODST.
