More Coming from Halo's Master Chief
In a statement that will shock you only if you got genuinely upset by the death of Batman and the revelation that Santa Claus might not actually slide down your chimney every year, Frank O'Connor has hinted that Halo's Master Chief may well grace our consoles again. Take that in tandem with a recent Microsoft job posting and it looks like development of a new 'full' instalment in the Halo series might be getting underway.

O'Connor, now working as Halo franchise development director, told USA Today, "I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief."

That comment stops being a statement of the obvious and becomes a little more interesting when you then take a look at a job opening Microsoft recently posted. The company is looking for "a strong Lead Designer to help develop a new experience in the Halo universe."

Microsoft has confirmed that this person will join its internal Halo team created last year to work on new Halo projects and support existing ones.

This "new experience" isn't forced to be a brand new game starring the Chief, of course. It's possible this is the Peter Jackson Halo Chronicles project. Given the fact that's supposed to have been in development for some time and Jackson's own Wingnut studios is meant to be leading development, however, that's not too likely.

With Halo Wars now out, the next gaming instalment in the Halo franchise will be Halo 3: ODST.

Please don't clone the bloody Master Chief and bring him back, MS. I personally thought he was a crap character, very devoid of character, but filling the fanboy ego cliched action butt slot.

Real characters, have faces, names and characteristics that make them convincing that you give a damn. Every time I played Halo, I couldn't connect with his cold faceless shiny helmet, that I found myself paying more attention to the NPCs.

A good game characters keeps you coming back, and while I purchased Halo 3 (hardly touching it online because its learning curve can't match Cod4's), it wasn't because of him.

Solid Snake, Revolver Ocelot etc, are good characters. Nico and Roman are good characters. Kratos is a good character. Master Chief certainly isn't and while he might fit his cold military battle clone suit, he's still crud.

As for Halo ODST (or whatever they want to call it) that I will buy, because the Chief isn't in it, shining his helmet ego or lack of it.

Personally MS, I'd like to see something new now. You've been flogging Halo for a while. Time for some new IP. If EA can do that in spades, why can't you?

Joji you are clearly in the minority Halo has selled well because its one of the best franchises out there, just because you and a very small number of people cannot understand Halo the rest of us can and the game sells because thats what gamers want.

For me Halo 1 was the absolute best of the trilogy and its a shame that it went downhill, however I am hoping with Microsoft not owning Bungie anymore that Bungie will make another Halo without the pressure and bring out something truely amazing.

Microsoft has not been flogging Halo for a while now, its stupid comments like that which you say without even thinking, the biggest milked game in the world has to be the Mario franchise and Halo is nowhere near the milking that franchise has got.

Its funny that the names you have mentioned as good characters ironically are from the PLAYSTATION brand. I smell fanboy.

Sorry, but read the story again. Microsoft is the one with the "internal Halo team" not Bungie. Microsoft owns the Halo brand. If Bungie makes another Halo-related product, it'll be because Microsoft paid them to, on their terms.

Joj, bubulah...

If you think of the Master Chief as a faceless, bland automaton, then you really don't know anything about him...he's got plenty of personality and character, if you know where to look, or care to...if you don't care about such things, you're free to ignore it.

As for his lack of a visible face...its an FPS, you're supposed to be looking through his eyes, not gazing lovingly at them.

He/she says they smell fanboy, eh. Well its not coming from me, mate.

I buried my fanboy spurs long ago.

Sure, Halo is popular and kudos to MS for that, but while the sotry is okay, the Master Chief just doesn't do it for me, agree to disagree. Master Chief is crud....nowt but an Arnie ego stroke in a suit.....there I said it.....now you can throw your cornflakes my way.

Yeah, I like MGS, because its got bloody great characters, well designed and warped in the personas. Psycho Mantis was badass, Revolver Ocelot even more badasser, and its kind of rare you experience good characters sometimes in games. In my previous post, all I done was select games with better examples of characters to compare, that's all (regardless of format, I care not). In comparison, Master Chief is crap, no doubt about it.

I just think MS should try something more, besides more of the same.

But like I said, agree to disagree.
