For some reason, Sony feels the need to dignify the tail.

Sony Responds to PlayStation Disease Story: Why?
SCEE has returned comment on yesterday's tale of an old condition given a new name based on one person contracting it.

Yes, "PlayStation Palm" or "PlayStation palmar hidradenitis" has been dignified.

Here's what SCEE has to say, "We firmly believe that video gaming is a legitimate entertainment pastime like watching movies, listening to music, or reading books. As with any leisure pursuit there are possible consequences of not following common sense, health advice and guidelines, as can be found within our instruction manuals."

Sure. Of course. That said, you don't actually hammer away at your TV remote control, bookmark or iPod*unless you are seriously strange.

Had we been Sony, we would have responded, "One person being reported as suffering from a condition that is already known about does not constitute a new threat. We would like to see the people responsible for this story put in front of the General Medical Council; and those responsible for reporting it as an actual medical condition hauled up in front of the Press Complaints Committee and then held in the village stocks to be stoned with PSPs."

That's why we don't work for Sony PR.

It would be like, so totally cool and s**t if you DID work for Sony PR. Because then we'd get more than: "We don't comment on rumour and speculation"; "No comment"; No comment - like actually, them just not saying anything; and corporate drivel.

I'm guessing you wouldn't give all the exclusives to bland corporate media whores. But then, when Sony gets into bed with war-mongering tax-evader Rupert Murdoch to sell us Sky TV on our PSPs, it makes sense that they'll have to give all their juiciest gossip and news to IGN.
