Much rumoured Metal Gear Solid 2 Blackout confirmed

No more MGS 2 info until the game hits the shelves

Konami of Japan has announced that Hideo Kojima, the producer and creator Metal Gear Solid, has declared a complete media blackout of the Metal Gear Solid 2: The Sons of Liberty until it is released later this year.

This halt in information was widely rumoured due to Kojima cancelling all of his press interviews at this year’s E3 in LA two weeks ago. Even before this time Kojima had expressed his dislike of gamers being greedy for information on his latest creation. He said at a press conference, after being asked several questions relating to the story of Metal Gear Solid 2, that he did not understand why anyone would want to know how a narrative lead game unfolds before playing it. Surely a fair point.

Subsequently, about a month ago, that Kojima decided that nothing more than the demo shipped with Zone of Enders would be seen until the final game was released.

"There's enormous excitement around the globe for Metal Gear Solid 2 and Mr Kojima wants to keep anticipation high,” said Dave Cox of Konami Europe. “Only a handful of people within the Konami organization know the direction he's taking with the game right now. We do promise that it'll be a mix of action, stealth and cinematic gameplay and that it will live up to it's reputation as one of the greatest games ever made. Metal Gear Solid 2 will redefine the world's expectations from interactive entertainment."

As most game creators try to get as much information about their titles into the public domain as possible Kojima sends his press staff on holiday and gets down to work. A nice strategy if you can afford it. It’s a safe bet that the creator of Metal Gear can.
