Konami has set a date for the release of the retro HudsonSoft maze-running game -
Bomberman 2.
The game will be out on the DS on February 13th - just before Valentines Day.
The familiar gameplay mechanic of laying down bombs to blast patrolling baddies to high heaven remains, but we're promised that HudsonSoft has expanded the levels to create a more open format. Players will complete tasks such as destroying a set number of blocks in a given time, escaping a level or destroying specific energy cores.
HudsonSoft has introduced customisation to the mix, with some 160,000 additions to our hero's look and abilities on offer.
Multi-player mode is set for a reappearance, with four able to compete over wi-fi or eight able to blow each other up through the DS's wireless functionality.
Frankly, SPOnG is left wondering whether a game about a terrorist who goes around bombing folk is really appropriate in a post-9/11 world...
You can find oodles of screens and art over on SPOnG's
dedicated game page.
