The official US PlayStation blog informed PlayStation Home beta testers (e.g. nearly everybody with a PS3) that Home would be down for maintenance and and update to version 1.04 from midnight Pacific Standard Time yesterday for six hours. That's 08:00 GMT.
The news has also been confirmed for Europe.Included in the information regarding a fix for 'connection issues' was the statement that, "Additionally, as part of version 1.04, the voice chat feature within PlayStation Home will be temporarily suspended. As soon as we are ready to resume the voice chat feature, we will inform you via
PlayStation.com and
PlayStation.Blog."
There is no timeframe given for the temporary suspension. If you've visited Home with your audio set up, you too may sigh in relief at the fact that you're not going to have to deal with the kind of idiot-level 'banter' that Sony hoped would not occur. If, on the other hand, you actually like talking rather than typing, this suspension will cause rancour. Either way, it appears that voicing your joy or concern won't be an option for a while.
Whether this is the sort of
'moderation' for sexual harassment that SCEA's director of hardware marketing, John Koller, was hinting at earlier is open to question.
