Confirmed: Metal Gear Solid for iPhone

and for the iPod Touch.

Earlier in the month, Konami had us wondering what the next Metal Gear game is. Both the Xbox 360 and the iPhone were suggested. Now the publisher has confirmed it: the game is called Metal Gear Solid Touch and it's coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch in Spring 2009.

The game will be loosely based on Metal Gear Solid 4, featuring its characters and locations. It's due for release next Spring.

Of the control scheme, Konami tells us, "With direct control through the touch panel, it's simple for anyone to move their alignment or switch to zoom mode."

Initially, the game will consist of eight stages, although Konami plans to release more post-launch. Points earned in the game by clearing stages can be used for unlocking images and wallpapers from the Metal Gear series.

Konami also gave mention to three other games scheduled for release this month. Topping the list is Silent Hill The Escape, which (according to Konami) is, "a first-person 3D shooting game that lets players utilize the control features only found on the iPhone and iPod touch such as moving their character by sliding a finger across the touch panel screen and changing alignment to target enemies using the built-in altimeter."

Also set for release is old-school Frogger and, for Japan and North America only, DanceDanceRevolution S Lite.

Wow it must have taken you a lot of effort to type all that...Put it this way the 360 is not the console that is losing all its exclusives to another platform nor is it the console that is at the bottom out of the all 3 consoles of this gen...

would the DS not make more sense?

Demitium: the ward and Moon, proves DS can handle such games.

It's not about the handling but the choice of the developer in what they want to make and achieve, making it for the Touch and iPhone makes sense. The DS lacks the visual capability and the PSP lacks the gameplay and fun factor yet the touch and iPhone has both.

No surprise, as many guessed it was for either 360 or iPhone/touch. Fairplay to those that can enjoy this, but Nintendo should seriously be thinking about upgrading the DS guts, and that DSi seems so pointless now. Apple could easily steal their thunder, if more iPhone games pick up pace.

In response to Majin, you make a good point that I came upon a while ago. My point was that Konami's DS offerings could be better, by them even porting the original MGS onto DS. This could have been done since the DS originally came out, but they have done nothing with it (like Capcom did with RE:DS).

Its almost as if Nintendo or MS (surely MGS1 should be on Live, like PSN) aren't good enough for MGS to be on at times, when I'm sure there's an audience for MGS on them, but Konami strangely don't seem keen.

Oh SuperSaiyan4, it's 2012 and the PS3 has so many loads of exclusives and the 360 has nothing, and has at this point lost exclusives to the PS3 LOL Mass Effect for one. Enjoy your crapbox and Halo 23, you made the wrong decision.
